A knife-wielding heroin addict was coaxed from his loft by a police officer after attacking his partner - leaving her with a broken wrist and severe bruising, a court heard.
Darren Makepeace had drunk himself into a near-stupor before he dragged Sarah Wilkins into the couple's lounge by her hair and attacked her, Oxford Crown Court heard. Makepeace, 33, of Edinburgh Way, Banbury, punched Miss Wilkins in the nose, and drew the curtains so no-one could see inside, Tony McGeorge, prosecuting, told the court.
The court heard the attack happened on January 5, after Miss Wilkins, also a heroin addict, accused Makepeace of taking her methadone.
He pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent at a previous hearing.
Mr McGeorge said that police called to the house wore protective clothing and were armed with shields, fearing a more serious incident.
But Pc Emma Brookes, who was not in protective clothing, persuaded Makepeace to admit he had a knife, and drop it down from the loft.
"She then gained his trust to the extent where they found a step ladder, put it under the loft and he came down," Mr McGeorge told the court.
Judge Anthony King said: "You have pleaded guilty to maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm."
He sentenced Makepeace to 30 months in prison, of which the defendant will serve half.
