An Oxfordshire aviation company has won more than £300,000 in damages after a plane it leased to a racing stable crashed while top jockey Frankie Dettori was on board.
On February 13 the High Court ordered stable owners Godolphin Management Company to pay Oxford Aviation Services £308,760 plus interest.
The case was brought by the company, based at Oxford Airport, Kidlington, after the plane crashed on take-off at Newmarket racecourse in June 2000.
Pilot Patrick Mackey was killed, but Mr Dettori, who suffered a broken ankle, was rescued from the wreck by fellow jockey Ray Cochrane.
Mr Justice Cooke ordered Cambridge-based Godolphin, which looks after horses belonging to the Dubai royal family, to pay Oxford Aviation for the loss of the plane. Godolphin had leased the aircraft to fly jockeys to race meetings.
