Cherry Red Records Hellenic League Premier Division Carterton Tn 2, Didcot Tn 1

A fine strike in stoppage time by Carterton's James Mortimer-Jones halted Didcot's Premier Division title charge at Kilkenney Lane on Saturday.

Mortimer-Jones broke clear and struck an unstoppable volley past Didcot keeper Richard Knight with virtually the last kick of the game.

Carterton started in spectacular style too, taking the lead with only 40 seconds gone as Gary Smailes applied a smart finish to beat Knight as the visitors were caught cold.

With a strong wind behind them, the home side were content to launch the ball forward and rely on their strikers to pick up the pieces.

On the half-hour, Paul Powell was unlucky to see his goalbound shot deflected wide for a corner by Gary Brown.

Knight produced a stunning one-handed save from Paul Sherwood to keep Didcot in contention before the break.

The visitors piled on the pressure after the interval.

Scott Taylor, Powell and Ian Concannon all went close, before the equaliser came on 74 minutes. Mike Ford released Andy Marriott on the left and Taylor headed his cross past Nick Heritage.

Just when it looked like the game would end all square, up popped Mortimer-Jones to claim the points.

North Leigh 1, Chipping Norton Tn 0

Champions North Leigh got back on track with a narrow victory over their west Oxfordshire rivals.

The only real chance in the first half fell early on to North Leigh's Nick Hughes, but his header hit the crossbar.

Chippy centre backs Neil Maskell and Steve Wright were in top form at the heart of the visitors' defence which was finally breached for the only time in the game in the 72nd minute.

North Leigh winger Harry Burnley found striker Stivelle Cooper, who squeezed a low shot just inside the far post to clinch victory.

Bicester Tn 1, Almondsbury Tn 0

Bicester had to wait until the 78th minute to secure the points against Almondsbury.

Good work by Paul Darch deep inside his own half sent Gary Wickens away and he drew the keeper before finishing in style.

It gave Bicester only their second win in 14 games, enabling them to leapfrog their opponents in the table.

Gloucester Utd 1, Hook Norton 1

Hooky picked up a hard-earned point after coming from behind at Gloucester.

With the wind at their backs, Hooky were in command for the first 20 minutes and replacement keeper Marcus Townsend was a mere spectator for most of it.

Then the Aggies went ahead out of the blue when left back Karl Palmer fired home into the right-hand corner.

Hooky heads did not drop, and they deservedly equalised on 42 minutes. Jake Tyrrell's persistence won him the ball near the corner flag and his cross found Nick Jones, who slid the ball home for his first goal for Hooky.

The second half saw Hooky on top, but always vulnerable to Gloucester breakaways.

Keeper Townsend made one magnificent punched clearance as well as pulling off two other fine saves to ensure a point.
