A dark green BT junction box has angered town councillors.
It has been placed outside the Methodist Church and Old Free Library in St Leonard's Square, Wallingford.
Councillors say it is an eyesore, and want it moved somewhere less obtrusive where it does not impinge on historic buildings.
Deputy mayor Pat Granados said: "It is an eyesore -- it has destroyed the symmetry of those buildings."
The council has written to BT complaining about it and a meeting with council officers will be held at the box tomorrow.
BT planning officer Lee Povey said: "We have done everything by the book -- we contacted the district council and its conservation officers and they have not complained.
"There was a box between the Methodist Church and the Old Free Library just a few yards from its present site. The church authorities wanted it moved because the buildings are being redeveloped and we complied with their request."
