A man shoved his pregnant ex-girlfriend - who was holding their 18-month-old son - so hard against a shop window that the glass cracked.

Oxford Crown Court heard on February 27 that Emma Partlett cut her head when she was pushed in St Clement's, Oxford, on December 21.

Benjamin Wall, 25, of Cowley Road, Oxford, was jailed for 12 months after admitting assault causing actual bodily harm on Ms Partlett and common assault on both her and his young son, as well as causing criminal damage on December 13.

Cathy Olliver, prosecuting, said Wall, a self-employed electrician, and Ms Partlett had been together for three years, but the relationship broke down last October.

Mrs Olliver said: "Wall had a view they should get back together again."

On December 13, he visited Ms Partlett but when she refused to go out with him, he slapped her face and head-butted her.

At about 11pm on December 21, Wall visited Ms Partlett's home, where he pushed and kicked her.

She fled to St Clement's, where she asked two people waiting for a bus to phone the police.

They raised the alarm but then boarded the bus. Wall caught up with her by St Clements Antiques and pushed her against the window. She needed six stitches for her head injury.

Peter Coombe, defending, said: "He is thoroughly ashamed and appalled at what what he did."

Jailing him for 12 months, Judge Mary-Jane Mowat told Wall: "You used inexcusable violence on a pregnant woman which involved not only her but your son as well."

On Thursday, February 28, Wall was banned from football games for three years after admitting public order offences.
