Shadow Home Secretary David Davies pledged to abandon the Government's controversial asylum seeker accommodation centre policy if the Conservatives won the next General Election.

The MP was in Bicester last night for a Question Time-style meeting to talk about the Tories' asylum policy and give support to the local campaign against building a centre for 750 asylum seekers on the outskirts of the town.
About 200 people from Bicester and surrounding villages, including Arncott, Wendlebury, Middleton Stoney and Piddington turned out for the meeting at Bicester Community College.
Mr Davis told the meeting that Bicester had been given "shoddy treatment" by the Government and the asylum policy needed a complete overhaul.
He said that the Conservative party would set quotas and legislate to build processing centres abroad, which would be run by the British Government.
He said the Conservativesy fully supported Bicester's MP Tony Baldry, who organised the meeting, and Bicester Action Group, which was set up to fight the proposals.
Mr Baldry said: "I think it's good news the shadow Home Secretary came to Bicester to make it clear there is an alternative asylum policy and the Government's policy is a shambles."
