Shoppers and traders in Abingdon has been given a triple boost, following a revival of confidence in the town's retail sector.
The town's Coxeters precinct is undergoing a major refit, a new toy shop in the former Braggs cycle shop has expanded into a second vacant unit, and the menswear shop Ciro Citterio is expected to stay open.
There were fears that the shop at the corner of Bridge Street and East St Helen Street would close after the company went into receivership last autumn.
A closing down sale was launched but now the shop's future appears to be secure.
Around 40 Ciro Citterio shops were closed after the company went into receivership. The receivers are seeking a buyer for the chain but declined to comment about the Abingdon shop.
The Solo furniture company has left Coxeters and is being replaced by Abode Furniture and Furnishing from Aylesbury, who will be taking over much of the first floor re-fitted shop space fronting Ock Street. The company has spent nearly £90,000 on the interior of the building
Peter Barrett a director of Coxeters said: "We have a wide range of shops and businesses. All the units have been taken for the past three years and we have a thriving business community here."
Lance Dickinson opened the Just Toys shop in the High Street last October. It has been so successful that he is set to take over the vacant unit. He said: "We had such a good Christmas and favour- able response from shoppers that we decided to expand. We are the only shop that specialises entirely in toys and games."
