West Oxfordshire District Council's chief executive Geoff Bonner is calling for a meeting with supermarket giant Tesco to discuss the closure of two post offices in Witney.
Tesco has taken over a chain of 100 convenience stores across the country and announced it was closing the post offices based in them.
The two in Witney are at the One Stop stores in Cogges and Fettiplace Road on the Windrush estate.
Hundreds of people are signing petitions demanding Tesco keeps the post office open. More than 215 have signed the petitions in the Oxford Mail office alone.
District councillor Louise Chapman said: "We have written to Tesco asking for a meeting. Feelings are running really high.
"I think we have 1,000 signatures already but we have yet to count all the names on the various petitions around the town."
