A village sports and social club has won a £410,000 grant from Sport England to help it develop new facilities.
The money will go towards a £950,000 project in Hook Norton, near Banbury, that includes a new clubhouse with more car parking spaces, a multi-games area for football, basketball, netball, and general recreation use, plus three new floodlit tennis courts and a new natural turf soccer pitch.
Michael Barlow, a member of the project committee, said: "This is the culmination of five years' work. The grant from Sport England of £410,809 will put in place the final elements of a scheme that will ensure the people of Hook Norton and nearby villages have access to first class sport and recreation facilities.
"The club currently provides tennis, football, running, and cricket. Opportunities for young people to take part in sport out of school will be increased by the new facilities, as will the access to general recreation and social provision."
The club has nearly raised all the money for the project, thanks to grants and local fundraising.
Cherwell District Council gave £85,000 and other contributions came from the New Opportunities Fund and the Foundation for Sport and Arts.
Lawrie Stratford, Cherwelll's Cabinet member for recreation, said: "The Sport England grant is great news for Hook Norton, for sport, and for the district. It shows the benefits that can be achieved by partners working together."
The sports and social club is appealing to companies and individuals who could help raise the last few thousand pounds needed.
