SIR - The Royal Mail's Oxford area manager, Michael Stockdale (Oxford Mail, April 7), tries to justify his stubborn treatment of the striking postal workers by saying: "We cannot continue to have a cycle of uncertainty."

But that is exactly what his customers have had for several years - continual interruptions to our post and uncertainty about its future reliability.

Clearly something is drastically wrong with industrial relations at the Oxford sorting office, and the evidence suggests that the fault lies with Mr Stockdale and his fellow managers.

The strike could probably have been settled much earlier if the management had been more flexible.

The Royal Mail's pompous, half-page advertisement is no comfort to the people in Oxfordshire whose mail has been delayed for more than a week.
