A man who was involved in many of the 20th century's technological advances, including radar and television, has died, aged 96.
Walter 'Bill' Watton spent the last years of his life at Middletown Grange Nursing Home in Hailey.
He was born in Eastleigh, Hampshire, and went to Imperial College, London.
He worked at Radio Research Laboratories at Slough, where research led to the discovery of radar. Mr Watton, who had moved on to EMI in Hayes, Middlesex, to work on the birth of television, was transferred back to work on radar during the Swar.
Late in his life, Mr Watton moved to west Oxfordshire, where his grandmother's family had connections dating back several centuries.
Mr Watton leaves two sons and two daughters.
