Oxford Silver Machine gained quick revenge for their defeat the previous day when outgunning the Robins in a cracking local Elite League speedway derby at the Stadium last night.
Star of the show was Polish ace Rafal Dobrucki with paid 15 points
Following the 12-point defeat at Swindon, the bonus point was never an option for Oxford, as former Sandy Lane stars Leigh Adams and Charlie Gjedde were in imperious form.
But the Silver Machine, inspired by Dobrucki and Lukas Dryml with good support from Jonas Davidsson, just did enough to pull off a win.
With Greg Hancock still sidelined with a shoulder injury, the Silver Machine again called on Dryml to fill the void, and he responded well.
The home side, in front of the biggest crowd for some time, had plenty to cheer when Travis McGowan was excluded in the opening heat for taking out Andy Smith.
It was ironic as Dryml had led in the first two runs, but had no answer to Gjedde in the second re-run.
Dobrucki and Davidsson got the Machine on track, speeding away with heat.
But Adams put his knowledge of the track to good effect, when slicing through Sebastian Ulamek and Dobrucki in heat four.
Oxford old boys Gjedde and Smith hit back when taking the next 5-1, before superb efforts from McGowan in heats eight and ten brought the home back on track.
Each time, McGowan took first Smith and then David Ruud on the outside to give Oxford some breathing space.
However, the Robins took the wind out of their sails, when eight points down, they brought in Gjedde as tactical rider in heat 11.
It worked a treat as he and Smith thumped in a 7-2 advantage to bring the Robins to within three points.
Dobrucki and Ulamek had left him standing, but the Dane, just like he did here last year, got his wheels in the dirt to produce a superb run on the outside to pass the Oxford pair out of the pits bend.
There was a brilliant start to the second half as first Johnston stormed ahead of Dobrucki. But after tracking the Aussie for a couple of laps, the Pole burst through at the pits bend to see Oxford ahead 40-35, with a vital heat 13 coming up.
In the event, the Robins pairing of Gjedde and Adams were far to hot for Dryml and Ulamek. Bursting from the gate, they gave Dryml little chance to bring the meeting to boilng point.
Oxford needed a 5-1 in the penultime heat to secure victory on the night.
A shrewd tactical move by team manager Wagstaff saw Iversen dropped in favour of the in-form Dobrucki.
The Oxford boys overcame an early threat from Rudd to come home to great welcome from the Oxford fans.
