Banbury Utd 1, Stamford 0: Wayne Blossom was the hero as his second-half strike helped Banbury United stretch their unbeaten run to 12 games with a hard-fought victory over their Dr Martens League Eastern Division promotion rivals Stamford at Spencer Stadium.
Banbury took control early on, and could have been ahead on 24 minutes, only for Stamford to clear Blossom's effort off the line.
Minutes later, Chris Potter was denied by Stamford keeper Ludek Michalik, before the ball was again booted off the line.
Michalik then kept out Blossom, before Paul Eldridge had another effort cleared.
In the second half, Banbury kept up the pressure and were rewarded on 61 minutes when Blossom broke the deadlock, hooking the ball home after George Redknap headed on a long kick from keeper Simon Tricker.
Stamford tried to get back into the game, but were kept out by resolute defending from Banbury.
Banbury Utd: Tricker, Fuller, Jackson, Sullivan, Allen, Eldridge, Stanbridge, Billington, Blossom, Redknap, Potter. Subs not used: Simms, O'Neill, Essex, Stidder, Brock.
Attendance: 301.
