The shortage of cycle parking in Oxford, if it exists, could be solved by converting part of the underused ground floor of the Westgate car park into secure cycle parking.
A small charge could be made to cover security, ensuring that one's sometimes valuable machine was still there on return.
Cyclists would have the choice of relatively insecure parking in the street, or paying a small sum and knowing the machine is safe.
Utopia? Probably, but we can hope.
