People in Chinnor have a chance to influence what happens at the cement works that have dominated the village for more than 100 years.
All work stopped at the site in 1999 and since then its future has been in doubt.
Now South Oxfordshire District Council is drawing up a draft planning document to guide potential purchasers and developers.
It envisages a mixed development of housing and industry, and it also wants landscaping and the use of the quarried areas for amenity, recreation and nature reserves.
The consultation runs until May 28, and people are asked to put in their comments to the planning policy team at the district council's Crowmarsh headquarters.
To help them understand what is envisaged, the council and the site's owners, RMC of Rugby, are staging an exhibition in the village centre in High Street on Sunday, April 25, between 11am and 5pm.
The cement works, in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, were the village's biggest employer for the best part of a century. It originally had a rail link but later switched to lorries.
