Thame Utd 0, Cheshunt 0: Thirteen places and 34 points separated the teams at the start of this Ryman Division 1 North game, but a Thame United side missing a number of first-teamers held the title-chasing visitors to a goalless draw.

To the casual observer, it must have been hard to establish which team was pushing for promotion.

In the early stages, Cheshunt were the more organised side, but Thame then started to believe in themselves.

The visitors went close when Thame were trying to organise a wall just outside their penalty area and a quick free-kick was well saved by Steve Smith in the Thame goal.

Cheshunt should have gone ahead when a move involving Andy Aransibia and ex- Aylesbury player Chris Bangura resulted in the ball skimming the Thame crossbar as they kept up the pressure on the hosts.

Thame had a good chance in first-half injury time when substitute Gascoyne had a shot well saved by the keeper. The home side upped a gear after the break and after Goffe had gone close on 54 minutes, Stewart Jones crashed a shot against the bar.

Thame continued to pile on the pressure and after 63 minutes, man-of-the-match Goffe and Gardner had chances to put the home side ahead, but their shots were well saved by Cheshunt keeper Bradley Hughes.

Thame Utd: Smith, Gardner (Rhodes), Hocking, Saulsbury, Williams, Avery, Freeman, Goffe, Franklin, Jones (Lane), Stewart (Gascoyne). Subs not used: West, Barisic.
