Multi-track record holder and 2003 Greyhound of the Year, Tims Crow, can put his rivals to flight in the £8,000 William Hill Pall Mall final over 450 metres at Oxford Stadium tonight.
Unbeaten in the qualifiers and winning by the proverbial mile each time, he can cement his position as clear favourite by streaking clear from trap four.
Judging by his semi-final success, Coolmona Dave looks a real danger and this lightly raced black dog is no mug, breaking track records in Ireland at Youghal and Cork.
It looks to be a battle from the boxes for the pair and whoever gets first run can dictate the race.
Stayers Lucrative Game, the big Oxford hope, and Persian Isle will be steaming on at the finish, but for either to come through and land gold it will need the big two to experience trouble in running.
Brighton Rock, a recent winner in front of the TV cameras, and Blonde Chimes will have to step up on recent performances to figure.
My 1-2-3 is: Tims Crow, Lucrative Game, Coolmona Dave. TONIGHT'S
FINAL
LINE-UP TRAP 1
Coolmona Dave: Black dog, trained by John Faint (Rye House). Has won 18 from 28 starts including 15 in Ireland. Impressive in semi-finals. Best time: 26.77. Ante-post 15-8.
TRAP 2
Lucrative Game: Black and white dog, trained by Angie Kibble (Oxford). Possibly the strongest finisher in race and would welcome trouble among the leaders. Won 12 out of 48. 26.93, 16-1.
TRAP 3
Persian Isle: Brindle dog, trained by Andrew Ioannou (unattached). His first major final and improving all the time. Stays on well and like trap two will benefit from any trouble. Won six out of 18, 27.23, 16-1.
TRAP 4
Tims Crow: Black dog, trained by Peter Rich (Romford). Fantastic record of 32 wins from 47 races. Track record holder at Hove, Milton Keynes and Nottingham, and Peterborough Derby winner. 26.96, 8-11.
TRAP 5
Blonde Chimes: Brindle bitch, trained by John Mullins (Walthamstow). The babe of the race and already a finalist in the Puppy Oaks at Wimbledon. The only English bred finalist has won eight of her 31 open races. 27.31, 20-1.
TRAP 6
Brighton Rock: Blue bitch, trained by Linda Jones (Walthamstow). Has come quietly through to the final and not one to ignore. Seen as a threat to the main two, but will have to be on her mettle. Won 15 from 58. 27.04, 7-1.
