Police have named an Oxfordshire man who died after falling 40ft down a stairwell in Bournemouth.
Matthew Hughes, 26, a landscape gardener, of Thame Road, Tetsworth, died of massive head injuries.
As reported in yesterday's Oxford Mail, the tragedy happened on Saturday night at the Bournemouth Waterfront complex, which houses the town's IMAX cinema as well as a pub, restaurants and a nightclub.
Mr Hughes had been turned away from the Harbour Lights pub, on the top floor of the Waterfront, just after 11pm because the bar had closed.
Moments later, he fell 40ft to the marble floor of the basement, near the entrance to the Jumpin Jaks nightclub. Nightclub staff called an ambulance and attempted first aid.
Harbour Lights' general manager John Sheridan said: "The door staff and management of Jumpin Jaks were absolutely fantastic in trying to resuscitate him.
"Everything possible was done to save the man's life, but unfortunately he passed away the next morning."
A statement from Luminar Leisure, operator of Jumpin Jaks, said: "This tragic incident has shocked and saddened staff at Jumpin Jaks in Bournemouth."
