A London man who made a trip to Oxford to sell heroin and crack cocaine has been jailed.
Kwesi Akwa, from Hackney, was stopped by police officers as he left Oxford train station last month.
Police found Akwa, 22, clenching a tissue that contained 25 wraps of heroin and six rocks of crack cocaine.
A day return train ticket from Paddington was in his pocket.
Colin McCarraher, defending, told Oxford Crown Court yesterday, Monday, April 19, that Akwa, who admitted two counts of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply, was not a hardened criminal 'up to his neck' in a drug habit, but that he had paid the ultimate price for running into arrears with a loan shark.
The court heard he was returning a favour for the £700 he owed.
Mr McCarraher said: "He has no problems with class A drugs. In fact, he has been in work and has been doing his best to better himself at a college in North London.
"Here is a young man who had to buy off his debt by acting as a carrier for drugs to come into Oxford city by train."
No value was given for the haul of drugs, it is believed they would have fetched several hundred pounds. Sentencing Akwa to 21 months in jail, Judge Christopher Compston said: "What you did was absolutely disgraceful.
"You knew full well you were helping to flood this city with yet more drugs.
"However, I accept that you seem to come from a decent background and home.
"For goodness sake, put this behind you."
