Suzuki has announced that all 2004 models in its range are to receive an increased specification at no extra cost.

Driver and passenger airbags are now fitted even to entry level models, while the standard anti-lock braking system with EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution) ensures braking effort between front and rear wheels is adjusted according to the weight distribution.

As well as the reassurance of a comprehensive safety package, occupants will also be able to enjoy a standard fitment radio with integrated CD player.

Simultaneously Suzuki is also introducing a substantially facelifted Liana range. The latest 2004 four-door saloon and five-door hatchback models are set to widen that popularity thanks to major revisions and prices held down to 2003 levels.

On the outside, Liana models now present a bolder on road presence with the introduction of a two bar grille sporting Suzuki's distinctive new 'S' mark emblem, body-coloured side mouldings and bumper corner mouldings.

The biggest changes are saved for the cabin, however, where the interior has been completely revised. Occupants are now presented with a new fascia featuring a metallic silver finish applied to the centre console, air vent surrounds and the door-mounted window switches. A new design of analogue speedometer and tachometer are joined by a digital clock and outside temperature gauge display built into the top of the fascia above the centre console.

Revised front seat cushions provide greater support whilst reshaped door pockets have increased the footwell width. The driver's seat has a lever type height adjuster, and an armrest is provided on automatic transmission-equipped models.

Additional standard convenience features include a sunglasses holder, 12 volt accessory socket in the centre console, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and heated, electrically operated door mirrors.

There are two Liana grades, GL and GLX, with the latter equipped as standard with air conditioning, front side airbags and front fog lights. In common with all Suzukis, ABS with EBD is now across the range.

The engine remains unchanged. A 1,586cc DOHC all-alloy engine produces 104 horsepower and a top speed of 105mph, a combined fuel consumption of 40.9mpg and carbon dioxide emissions of 169 g/km.

Current on the road prices for the manual transmission GL saloon and hatchback are £8,995, and £9,995 for the GLX grade. Automatic GLX models are also currently on offer at £10,863.

Meanwhile, Suzuki's 1.1 litre Alto continues to be on special offer at £5,495, despite the addition of a radio/CD player, and anti-lock brakes. It also gains rear head restraints, new seats and new interior trim.
