Former Cambridge captain Paul Wanless faces his former teammates at the Kassam Stadium tomorrow desperate for a win to kick-start the team as they begin a new era under Graham Rix.
Stand-in boss Rix has now been confirmed as United's manager on a two-year deal, taking away a lot of uncertainty around the club.
"It's good that we've got the stability now," Wanless said.
"I'm delighted for him. He's thrown a lot of ideas in and I know the results haven't gone our way but, looking at it from the players' point of view, we know now who's the manager next year and that's got to help.
"Tomorrow's a massive game," Wanless added. "I had eight wonderful years at Cambridge, six as captain, and you don't forget times like those.
"But more importantly for us, with three games left, we're desperate to get the wins to take us into the play-offs.
"Yeovil may have gone above us in midweek, but both they and Northampton will drop points between now and the end of the season, I'm sure of it, so it's just whoever picks up the most points out of the three of us.
"First and foremost, we've got to win our two home games, starting tomorrow.
"The pressure's on us because Cambridge are now safe, just about, but up until recently their away record was the best in the league, so it will be a tough game."
Cambridge's new manager, Frenchman Claude Le Roy, has made constant changes, so Wanny has little idea who he'll be facing.
"I think he likes squad rotation because he's used so many different players, but he's given four 16-year-olds their debuts.
"I'll get a big buzz from playing in this game. It's certainly one I don't want to lose."
