SIR -- I have read various comments on the Cornmarket Street seating problems in Oxford.
I have worked and lived in Oxford all my life. I was born here and as one gets older, the need for a comfortable seat for five minutes' respite is not much to ask for.
Why cannot we have four or five Cotswold stone seats that the elderly and disabled can sit on, with backs to them that one can reach?
We should put up notices saying that these are for OAPs and the disabled, who find Oxford hard to negotiate at the best of times.
Oxford seems to cater for the tourists and young people and forgets to provide for its disabled and elderly.
Perhaps we should take a leaf out of Moreton-in-Marsh's book.
On market day, every Tuesday, seats are provided for their elderly to wait for their buses beside the main road. Excellent idea!
