Oxford UCCE's bowlers gave one of the most inept performances ever witnessed in The Parks yesterday as Somerset 2nd beat them by ten wickets in the second of two one-day matches.
The trouble started in Mali Richards's first over when the visitors began their innings needing 189 off 40 overs.
The first ball went for five wides, followed by three no balls, and 11 of the 16 runs conceded from the ten-ball over were extras.
He was taken off after three overs which cost 31 runs.
The other bowlers were only marginally better and Ashley Wright and Carl Gazzard, the Somerset openers, needed a mere 12 overs to put on 100.
They went on to reach the target with 19.3 overs to spare.
Oxford's total was due to a sixth-wicket stand of 67 by Luke Parker and John Knappett which was broken when Parker was caught for 71, off as many deliveries.
Scores: Oxford UCCE 188-6 (40 ov, L Parker 71), Somerset 2nd 189-0 (21.3 ov, A Wright 93no, C Gazzard 49no).
