Abingdon Tn 4, Witham Tn 1: Abingdon completed their home programme in Ryman League Division 2 with a convincing victory
against fifth-placed Witham at Culham Road.
Town opened the scoring after 24 minutes, when Danny Clarke cut the ball back for Mark Scanes to crash home.
Four minutes later it was 2-0 as Tom Butler made a great run into the Witham penalty area, before unselfishly playing the ball to Chris Johnson, who slammed it home.
Butler himself was next onto the scoresheet. Witham failed to deal with a cross from Joey Beauchamp, and Butler took a touch before firing home from close range.
Just before half-time, Abingdon took a 4-0 lead when Matty Whitehaead drove a ball across the face of goal, Butler got a slight touch, and Joey Beauchamp reacted brilliantly with a diving header at the far post.
After the break, the visitors came back into the game, but Town keeper Chris Brain kept them at bay, turning a free kick from Gino Defoe past a post and saving from Kniqi.
The visitors reduced the deficit after 63 minutes, when Defoe ran onto a long ball over the top and rolled the ball past Brain.
Abingdon also had a few chances, but on a hot day and with a comfortable lead, they settled for a well-deserved victory.
