A community centre has been given a one-year reprieve by Bicester town councillors.
But they have warned local people must make use of it or they will lose it.
Bicester Community Church has run the centre in a portable building in Keble Road for the past three years, but its funding is due to stop within the next few months.
In a bid to keep the community centre open councillors have agreed to stump up £3,000 to cover costs for the next year.
In the meantime a working party has been set up, which includes town councillors, Cherwell District Council and the church group. But councillors want residents to join.
John Cozens said he and fellow councillors Tony Kempton, and John Hanna had hand delivered a survey to residents asking people what they wanted from the centre, and urging them to get involved in its day to day running.
