Two M40 service station workers were threatened with a metal chain and forced to hand over a large sum of cash.
Police officers were called to the incident at the Welcome Break Services, at junction 8A near Wheatley, at 7.47am on Saturday, April 24.
Police said three men pulled up alongside the two women, who were carrying the previous night's takings, believed to be several thousand pounds.
Two got out of the vehicle, a stolen blue Ford Orion car, and threatened the women with a metal chain demanding they hand over the money.
The offenders then drove off in the car, which had been stolen from Littlemore, Oxford, on Friday night. The first part of the registration number was G780.
Police do not have a detailed description of the men, but said all three were wearing dark clothing and dark hooded tops. Dc Mick Hooker said: "This is a very serious incident and although no actual force was used in the robbery the two women involved have obviously been left very shaken.
Anyone with information should call Dc Hooker on 08458 505505.
