People over the age of 50 can treat themselves to a foot massage when they drop in at an 'information fair' being held in Oxford.

The second of five such events being staged in Oxford by the charity Age Concern takes place at the Rose Hill community centre on April 28, from 11am until 3pm.

The Pension Service, Oxford City Council, and Oxfordshire County Council's trading standards department will be among 30 and 40 organisations on hand to answer queries.

The first in the series of 'info fairs' held a month ago in west Oxford proved to be a great success, with scores of people arriving at the community centre in Botley Road.

They learned about topics such as health, independence, safety, leisure, transport and finance.

And again, at the Rose Hill event, pianist Nick Gilwell will serenade the visitors as they browse the array of stalls.

Visitors will be invited to help themselves to free refreshments, or try out a foot massage and gentle exercise.

Oxford's Lord Mayor, Pat Stannard, who nominated Age Concern Oxfordshire as his charity of the year, urged local people to get involved.

He said: "If you are over 50, there's something at the fairs for you.

"We hope that by making them really local, people will be able to drop in easily." Organiser Marian Pocock said: "We are really fortunate that so many experts will be on hand to provide information, answer questions, offer taster sessions of different activities and provide bags of freebies.

"The fairs will be a really good opportunity for people to get to know about things -- but we also hope that people will have an enjoyable time."

Dawn Williams, community development worker with the city council on behalf of the organisation, Agewell, added: "When we ask people about what they want, the need for better and more accessible information always comes out high on the list."
