Oxford City 1, Uxbridge 1: A sensational strike from Andy Ballard was not enough as Oxford City had to settle for a share of the spoils against their Ryman League Division 1 North rivals at Court Place Farm last night.
This was a far better display than City's poor showing in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Tilbury, though it was Uxbridge who fashioned the first chance, with City keeper Steve Benbow palming Andy Campbell's effort against a post.
But on 32 minutes, City, who gave Danny Riley his debut after signing from Abingdon Town, took the lead when Ballard crashed home one of the best goals of the season. After his initial shot rebounded back to him, he volleyed a screamer from the touchline.
But five minutes later, Uxbridge equalised through Campbell.
In the second half, Uxbridge tried hard for the winner, but City held on.
Oxford C: Benbow, Riley, Smillie, Antonowicz, Brown, Lee (Champelovier 89), Shepherd, Ballard, Baker (Harper 73), Doyle (Crosby 61), Ferreira. Subs not used: Prescott, Perkins.
Ware 0, Abingdon Tn 1: Abingdon Town made it two wins in a row as they returned from Hertfordshire with all three Division 2 points.
It was sweet revenge for Town who lost at home to the same opponents a few weeks ago.
On 44 minutes, Town took the lead, Danny Clarke turning the ball home after Scott Davis flicked on Matty Whitehead's long throw.
After the break, Graham Cole, Joey Beauchamp and Roger Charles went close, before Town keeper Chris Brain kept out a late effort.
