Oxfordshire Senior League: Eynsham were crowned Premier Division champions with a 2-0 win over Oxford University Press in last night's top-of-the-table clash, in front of a crowd of 150.
The stakes could not have been higher with both sides needing a win - Eynsham to confirm the title - and OUP to keep alive their championship hopes alive.
Leaders Eynsham took the lead on 20 minutes when Chris Parsons brought down Matty Phillips, Steve Green slotting home the penalty, before David Farrell volleyed OUP's best chance over the bar.
Eynsham sealed victory and the championship when Tom Gerrerd's deflected shot found the back of the net in the second half.
Last week, Eynsham won 3-1 at Garsington, thanks to Richard Bustin, Mark Simms and Matty Phillips. And on Saturday, they beat Long Crendon 4-0, with goals from Steve Green (2) and Bustin (2).
Crendon were reduced to ten men with the second-half dismissal of Ben Lavarle for handling.
OUP, who won 3-0 at Bletchingdon in midweek, with goals from James Gray (2) and Daniel Leggett, stayed in the title hunt thanks to a 2-1 win over Marston Saints.
James Hunn and Leggett were the scorers, while Tommy Cooper replied for Marston.
Bletchingdon & Worcester College Old Boys and Garsington are safe from the drop after they fought out a 2-2 draw.
Steve Wheeler's opener for Bletchingdon was cancelled out by Mark Simms, before Nick East restored their advantage, only for Simms to level.
In Division 1, BCS Bardwell turned the formbook upside down with a 2-1 win at second-placed Middleton Cheney.
After a goalless first half, Bardwell broke the deadlock when Paul Anderson smashed home a thunderbolt. The same player went close, as did Robert Honour and Pete Allison.
Five minutes from time, Allison found the net after the Middleton keeper could only parry his shot.
Last Tuesday, Bardwell won 6-3 at Old Salesians, thanks to an Allison hat-trick and other goals from Stephen Tegg, Jamie Phillimore and Ian Edge.
However, the next day they lost 2-1 to Kennington, Honour netting their consolation.
