Seagrave Haulage League: AFC Wallingford are celebrating after being awarded £136,700 in grant funding to improve their ground at the Hithercroft.

The Football Stadia Improvement Fund, supporters of the Football Foundation, will be handing £100,000 over to the south Oxfordshire club.

Together with a £36,700 grant from South Oxfordshire District Council, Wallingford will finally be able to carry out the much-needed improvement to their ground as they look to rise up the football pyramid.

The money will be used to build new changing rooms, and a 100-seater stand to bring the ground up to the Grade A requirement of the Combined Counties League.

Wallingford chairman Lindsay Townsend said: "This is the reward for a lot of hard work over several years.

"It's a tremendous boost to the club, and means we will be able to get the facilities in the near future.

"We have to start the work within six months, but with all the planning permission already secured, we hope to get started much sooner."

Wallingford secretary Richard May said the award was the culmination of two years' work and singled out manager Dave Crowdy for special praise.

May said: "Without Dave's help, it is unlikely that the club would have been in a position to receive this excellent news.

"The club can now look forward to enhancing their facilities to the benefit of players, spectators and the community."

Meanwhile, Barry Primmer and Pete Bryan are unavailable for tomorrow's home game with Withdean as Wallingford seek the win they need to secure second place in the Premier Division.
