A woman fought off an attacker who lunged at a baby she was caring for.
The woman was looking after the 20-month-old in White House Road, Oxford, when a boy started to hit her on the head and body, and demanded her bag.
She offered him the bag, but he continued the assault, and then lunged towards the baby in a buggy.
The victim hit the attacker, who ran off towards the city centre. The offence took place at about 1pm on April 28.
Det Sgt Rebecca Mears, of Oxford police's robbery team, said: "This was a violent attack on a vulnerable woman and baby. We are working as hard as we can to identify the offender.
"This was a one-off, which has not been connected to any other incident at this time."
The attacker was black, about 12, with short, dark, curly hair and wore dark-coloured clothing.
