Erith & Belvedere 2, Banbury Utd 1: Banbury United's jaded players must lift themselves one last time as they entertain on Sutton Coldfield Town in today's play-off for a place in next season's Dr Martens Premier League.

Although Kevin Brock's men, who will be playing their third game in five days, lost in Kent on Saturday, they made the one-off match after they finished eighth in the league, thanks to Stamford's defeat of Burgess Hill.

Sutton came eighth in the Western Division, but Banbury got the home draw due to a superior points difference.

Banbury, who 48 hours earlier won the Oxfordshire Senior Cup with a 1-0 over Oxford United, took time to settle against Erith with Wayne Blossom deputising for the unavailable centre back Jason Allen.

After 15 minutes, Erith took the lead when leading scorer Akpol Sodje latched on to a loose ball from the usually reliable Paul Eldridge, and rounded the stranded Simon Tricker before tapping home from ten yards.

In the 28th minute, under severe pressure from Ollie Stanbridge, Erith defender Scott Saunders fell to the ground, and inexplicably handled in the area, Ady Fuller levelling from the spot.

Two minutes into first-half injury time, United were unlucky when Mark Simms's left-foot shot was deflected past the stranded keeper Jani Seitsonen for a corner.

After the break, Banbury battled hard and thought they had gone ahead on 55 minutes when Simms lobbed the keeper only to see the effort ruled out for a foul.

Banbury battled away for the winner, and they certainly shaded the second half.

But in the 87th minute, the Deres got the winner with a goal that deserved to win any game.

The ball was only half-cleared by Banbury, and Ray Aboagye volleyed the ball home from 15 yards past Tricker.

Banbury Utd: Tricker, Fuller, Jackson, Sullivan, Blossom, Eldridge (Corbett 46), Stanbridge, Billington, Simms, Redknap (Jenkins 72), Potter (O'Neill 64). Subs not used: Essex, Brock.
