Thame's youngest pub landlord is now the town council's youngest member.
Conservative Richard Walker, 27, landlord of the Six Bells pub, beat Mary Stiles, Labour, for the seat left vacant when Diana Ludlow left the area.
Mr Walker's family has been involved in business in Thame for many years. His grandparents ran a general store in Upper High Street, where his mother now runs a cake decoration business.
Mr Walker went to school in Thame and trained as a chef. His wife Claire is expecting their first child this month.
Mr Walker said it was important to stop the encroachment of large retailers in the town.
He added that the town's cultural and social needs had to be fulfilled, and he wanted to see the cattle market and Rycotewood college sites provide facilities for everyone in the town.
Mr Walker received 603 votes, while Mary Stiles received 553.
Town mayor David Laver will also represent the town on Oxfordshire County Council again.
