A superb 15-point full house for Chris Schramm at last got Oxford Silver Machine Academy side on the road with a thumping 57-34 win over local rivals Swindon at the Stadium last night, writes JOHN GAISFORD.
Theteam settled in well with newcomers Craig Branney (paid 13), Danny Norton (paid 11), and 15-year-old Aussie prospect Sam Martin piling up paid seven on his debut.
Chris Mills, as consistent as ever, weighed with a solid paid 11 from the No 1 spot, but it was a mixed night to forget for Ben Barker, who won heat eight, but also hit the deck twice.
The Academy took the lead in heat three and never looked back as twice the Robins were forced to use their tactical joker.
However, it yielded just one extra point as last year's Oxford favourite, Chris Johnson, managed only third and veteran Malcolm Holloway fell at the first bend in heat 11.
Schramm, Mils and Johnson figured in the best race of the night in heat 13 with the Oxford pair coming off best for maximum points.
Oxford: Schramm 15, Branney 12+1, Mills 10+1, Norton 8+3, Martin 5+2, Barker 4+1, Woods 3+1. 57 pts.
Swindon: Courtney 7, Holloway 6, Johnson 6, Purchase 6, Harding 4, Warwick 3, Frampton 2. 34 pts.
