Sir - Like Bill Yates (Oxford Mail, July 29), I welcomed Councillor John Tanner's letter pointing out the good things this Government has done.
However, I also share the opinion that Tony Blair should resign.
The problem is not one of ideology but one of ethics. No-one denies that ridding the world of Saddam Hussein was a good thing, but the method is highly questionable.
Instead of being honest about launching an unprovoked invasion on another country to rid it of its leader, Mr Blair told us a myth about weapons which intelligence knew did not exist. This is a serious matter of personal integrity.
We are now hearing similar rumblings regarding Iran having a nuclear weapons programme.
We are told that America and Britain will not take action, but that Israel is keen to launch the same kind of pre-emptive strike we used on Iraq.
Can Mr Yates not see how dangerous the international community has become where invading other countries on flimsy grounds becomes the norm?
Labour has done some fine things. However, I believe it will continue to do those things without having its current leader in place.
