An internal inquiry has cleared police of any involvement in the death of an Abingdon schoolgirl.
Kim Knott, 13, died at 11.30pm on Saturday after the BMW motorbike on which she was a passenger hit a lamp-post in Wimblestraw Road, Berinsfield.
Investigators from the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) were called in because a police car was nearby at the time of the crash.
A spokesman for the IPCC told the Oxford Mail: "We have successfully completed our inquiries and we found no evidence of a police pursuit at the time of the incident."
A review of control room tapes found that the police car did not have its sirens on.
The spokesman added: "Our role is just to look at whether there was any police involvement and there wasn't. How and why Kim died is now a matter for Thames Valley Police."
It is believed that the girl's 40-year-old stepfather, Paul Baker, was riding the machine.
Mr Baker was taken to hospital with severe injuries and is now in a serious but stable condition.
Kim lived in Ock Drive with Mr Baker, her half-brothers Connor, 12, and Dean, 11, and half-sisters Fay, nine, and Zoe, five. Her mother, Wendy Knott, lives in Quantock View, Didcot.
The lamp-post in Wimblestraw Road was yesterday (Monday, August 9) covered in flowers and messages from shocked friends, family and neighbours.
A post mortem into Kim's death was carried out yesterday.
Police will continue to investigate. Witnesses are asked to call Sgt Addie Wapner on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
