With Oxford City's Mark Beerling, winner of the last three races in the Mota-vation series, absent, Birchfield Harrier Tom Penfold cruised to victory in the fourth round at Chipping Norton.

Penfold, who formerly ran with White Horse Harriers, easily saw off Abingdon Ambler Phil Egerton for first place, crossing the line in 21mins 47secs.

Beerling will have to run in the final round at Oxford in order to stand a chance of securing a series victory - as athletes need to run in four of the five races to qualify.

In the senior ladies' race, Alchester's Jenny Pyper took full advantage of series leader Jude Craft's absence to post a convincing victory as she crossed the line in 25.45, finishing almost a minute ahead of Witney Roadrunners' Nicola Gomm (LV35).

The final race of the series is at Oxford on Thursday, September 2 (7.15pm).
