One of Witney's town centre public toilets is open again - part of a major programme to refurbish all of the district's conveniences.
The £1m investment over five years aims to upgrade the facilities to help West Oxfordshire's expanding tourism trade.
And the hope is that design features - as well as charging a fee - will deter vandalism and grafitti.
The 10p charge is in force at the revamped toilets in Langdale Gate, Witney, the first to be completed under the refurbishment programme. The extra facilities include baby changing and access for those with disabilities.
All 14 public toilets in the district are being upgraded by West Oxfordshire District Council following a review which found that many were in a poor condition and needed better maintenance.
David Harvey, council cabinet member for the environment, said: "As a council we spend quite a lot of our resources on successfully promoting tourism into the district.
"But if they arrive here and have a bad experience with the state of the public toilets, it could colour how they feel about the rest of their stay."
