A man has died following a fight during a wedding reception at an Oxford hotel.

Police were called to the Holiday Inn, Pear Tree roundabout, about 11.30pm on Saturday (August 14).

A 28-year-old man was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, in Oxford, where he later died. He was expected to be identified today (Monday, August 16).

One witness, who did not want to be named, said an argument broke out in the hotel reception and she saw someone being hit with a chair.

A police spokesman said no arrests had been made so far. The cause of death has not yet been released.

Duty manager Birgitte Surtees confirmed police had been carrying out an investigation throughout the day yesterday (August 15).

The death is the second in just over a year at the site, which houses the Holiday Inn and a Travelodge hotel.

In June, lorry driver Stephen Ellis, of Reading, was found guilty of the manslaughter of Donna Rowe, 29, whose body was found by workers at the Travelodge hotel, on August 3 last year. He was given a seven-year-jail sentence.

The court heard how a row had flared up at a family wedding in Oxford, were Miss Rowe had been drinking. Miss Rowe's body was later found with a hairdryer lead around her neck, clothing around her face and a pillow over her head.
