In reply to Derek Honey, Take a Break -- where? (Oxford Mail, August 11), why is it only service stations that he wishes to use? High Wycombe is easily accessible if going to Gatwick, and that is 30 miles into the journey.

There are more exits on the M25 where you can go into a town or city for a break.

The countryside is disappearing more and more. Why have more service stations cropping up all over the place and destroying it?

If Mr Honey feels that much of a need to eat and have a break, pull off at a junction, find a layby, have a kip, and take some food with you (sandwiches/water). Or let someone else take you.

Oxford bus companies offer a good service into London and both airports, and it is probably cheaper than driving yourself.

Why do we want to act like the French? We are too American as it is, with big retail parks. Let Britain be Britain -- let's stop trying to be like other countries. JUSTIN-LEIGH WALDEN, Hurst Street, Oxford
