Midfielder Rob Wolleaston has urged Oxford United's fans not to worry . . . the goals will come.
Rob WolleastonGraham Rix's side were expected to find the target with much more frequency this season, but the U's have hit the net just twice in three matches, two of those at home.
However, former Chelsea and Bradford man Wolleaston is convinced it's only a matter of time before players throughout the side find the net on a regular basis - himself included.
After a long training session at Brasenose College sports ground yesterday, in which he hammered in long-range shots on a regular basis, Wolleaston said: "I'm sure it will all come together.
"Bradders (Lee Bradbury) has not got any goals yet but he'll start banging them in, Tommy (Mooney) has got a couple already and hopefully a couple of midfielders will start finding the net.
"It takes a lot of pressure off the strikers if the midfielders chip in with some goals."
It was not for the want of trying against Scunthorpe last Saturday.
Wolleaston had three or four efforts on goal from the edge of, or outside, the box.
He said: "I rushed the shots really. I think I snatched at them, I should have taken more time.
"In training they are going in. Practice makes perfect and I should get a goal soon."
United's players had a day off on Monday but worked hard in training under the midday sun yesterday.
"Sometimes you need those long training sessions after a couple of days off, and we felt good afterwards," said Wolleaston, who scored six goals for Bradford last season.
United visit Leyton Orient this Saturday and both teams have four points from three games.
Several of the fringe players and reserves, who have not yet had a match, took part in a training game at Milton Keynes Dons yesterday, when late goals from Tom Winters and Steve Basham earned United a 2-2 draw.
