Two men who robbed a supermarket manager were caught by police because they were too drunk to escape, a court heard.
Kamran Khan and Kamran Nawaz were yesterday given prison sentences for robbing Nicholas Soames as he withdrew £500 from an Oxford cashpoint on December 16.
At Oxford Crown Court, Judge Anthony King sentenced Khan, 23, of Kersington Crescent, Oxford, to three-and-a-half years in prison. Nawaz, 19, of Collinwood Road, Risinghurst, was sentenced to three years.
Khan held and punched Mr Soames while Nawaz took the money. A jury convicted the men of the offence at a previous hearing.
Judge King told Khan and Nawaz: "One of you used an excuse to attack him and use violence on him, the other went to the cashpoint and removed the money from it. One of you tried to obtain his cash card to continue the robbery.
"You were caught because the police were soon on the scene and it appears both of you were so drunk you didn't take proper steps to escape."
Jamie Porter, defending Khan, said his client had changed his ways. He said: "He recognises alcohol is his downfall."
Peter Coombe, defending Nawaz, said: "He says he has learnt a valuable lesson and he expresses determination to never offend again."
After the robbery, the victim followed the defendants in his car and they were arrested in East Avenue when police arrived minutes later.
Khan had 12 previous convictions for 14 offences, including assault, theft, public order and a drug offence.
Last November Khan was the victim of a kidnap in which he was driven to Wheatley, then to a wooded area near Oxford and repeatedly beaten.
He was put in the boot of the car and dumped near his sister's home in Cowley.
Six men were convicted of kidnap and sent to prison last month.
Nawaz, who works for Domino Pizzas, had one previous conviction for theft and obtaining property by deception.
