Oxford City's Nathan Douglas feels in great shape as he prepares for the biggest moment of his life.
The 21-year-old, from Hinksey, is excited and enjoying the experience of his first Olympic Games as he focuses on the heats of the men's triple jump which take place in the old Olympic Stadium between 9.55am and 11.55am on Friday.
Before he left Team GB's holding camp to travel to Athens on Tuesday, Douglas declared: "My training has gone well here in Cyprus and I have adapted to the weather and the time change.
"I settled in well to the camp and am feeling good.
"I am excited about the Games. I don't know what to expect. We'll have to see what happens.
"No matter what happens, though, I will come away with a good experience from my first-ever Olympics."
The triple jump final is on Monday, but Douglas has no expectations of making it.
In truth, he never thought he'd get this far.
He finished 14th at last summer's European Under 23 Championships, his first venture into major international competition, so never thought that he would make it to Athens.
But others did.
"Basically, my coach had a belief in me, and told me in the winter that I could make it," he said.
"As soon as he rushed that belief into me, I got thinking and decided that if I could get everything to click, I could get 16.85m, but I couldn't see myself getting 16.95!"
