Volkswagen has introduced a new model to the Golf range, slotting in below the GT TDI / GT FSI models.
The Golf Sport complements the line-up by combining the 1.6 FSI and 1.9 TDI engines of S and SE Golfs with the more dynamic appearance of the range-topping models. Prices range from £15,515 to £18,400.
The Golf Sport is expected to appeal to those customers who want a sporty appearance but who do not require the higher output powerplants found at the top of the Golf line-up. The new model has lowered sports suspension, front sports seats, 16-inch 'Hockenheim' alloy wheels and body-coloured bump and side strips.
The Golf Sport sits alongside the Golf SE, offering a multifunction computer; alarm with interior protection; Climatic semi-automatic air conditioning; leather-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel, gear knob, gaiter and handbrake grip; and a ten-speaker radio/CD player.
This comes on top of the latest Golf's list of standard equipment, which includes among a host of other items, ABS with ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme); six airbags; electric front windows; electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors; and remote central locking.
The new Golf has got off to a flying start in the UK since its launch in January, exceeding sales expectations while collecting top awards along the way -- most notably the prestigious title of What Car? Car of the Year 2004.
