JACK Smillie showed the sort of bravery Oxford City are looking for with a late equaliser in Saturday's Southern League Division 1 West 1-1 draw at Bracknell Town.

Smillie headed home a long Andy Ballard throw 12 minutes from time, but in the process suffered a badly cut head after colliding with the Bracknell goalkeeper's knee.

He was taken to hospital for stitches.

It meant that City, who had already used their three permitted substitutes, were forced to play the final stages with ten men.

Bracknell, who are just one place below City at the wrong end of the table, went ahead seven minutes into the second half when a free-kick by Danny Oliphant was headed in by Ben Edwards.

But City hit back, and after having a goal disallowed for a dubious offside decision, grabbed a point through Smillie's bravery.
