SIR -- It appears that Peter Matthews (Oxford Mail, December 4), among others, is unhappy with the decision of the House of Commons to enact the Parliament Act to ensure the ban on foxhunting was introduced, as promised by the Labour Party.
May I remind Mr Matthews, and his like, that sovereignty of the United Kingdom lies within the Palace of Westminster and specifically with the elected chamber, the House of Commons?
The days of this country being ruled over by the landed gentry, the monarchy and unelected members of the House of Lords are long gone and will not be coming back.
May I also remind him that the present Government has 407 MPs and a Parliamentary majority of 159? I realise that this might not be to his satisfaction.
However, that's the way it is and with the present leadership of the Conservative Party, I don't envisage that will change much after the next General Election.
