OXFORDSHIRE marched on at the top of their regional group in the English Inter County Competition with a comprehensive 29-7 win away to bottom team London.

Oxon had the victory wrapped up after the first two runs of the mats, with all eight teams winning their games.

Seventeen-year-old Matt Smith gained the most notable victory, coming from 9-2 behind in the singles to win the match by four shots.

Trevor Brown was also a singles winner, while Adam Dickson and David Wiggins, and Geoff Cross and Alan Foster triumphed in the pairs.

Triples wins were posted by Anne Sirett, Martin Cross and Roger Wiggins, and Nathan Cole, Vi Carver and Rod McBeth.

Oxon also took both fours, with Les Grey, Simon Faulkner, Tim Cross and Gloria Smith, and David Dunevein, Andrew Curtis, Mike Keevil and Ray Claridge shining.

This left Oxfordshire leading 16-0 and plus 51 shots.

London hit back on the last two runs, but with both Oxon taking both singles and triples and drawing the pairs, the visitors ran out emphatic winners.

They now lead their group by 18 points with just two matches to play as they chase a place in the national quarter-finals.
