HISTORY was made at the British Universities Championships when Oxford's Kaleen Love fought in the first women's Varsity Match.
Welterweight Love took on the Light Blues' Katherine Tubb in the preliminary match of the tournament, but suffered defeat in the third round.
Love fought well considering she took up the sport only three months ago and her competitor had more than a year's experience on her side.
Eight Oxford University boxers travelled to the championship, held in Dundee, and the squad - comprising seven men and one woman - came away with one gold medal and two silvers.
Lightweight James Whitman outclassed all opposition in the run-up to the semi-final, in which he fought teammate Fred Brown.
The all-Dark Blues clash produced one of the best fights of the championship with Whitman taking the honours in the semi and then continuing his strong form to take the title in the final.
David Amiekumo won silver in the middleweight category, while teammate Azar Salomon added to the collection in the light heavyweight final.
Peter Ho, team co-captain, said: "The team put on a really good show of boxing. There seemed to be a real air of expectancy ringside every time an Oxford boxer was fighting, which was very pleasing.
"We had some of the fittest boxers in the championships. It bodes well for the Varsity Match in Cambridge in March."
