Sir - I've been observing the recent debate about Radio Oxford with interest. Stephanie Jenkins's letter (Oxford Mail, December 10) has forced me to contribute.
Anne Diamond may not be the perfect presenter. I often find her reactionary and opinionated, but at least she has an opinion.
Her predecessor, Jonathan Hancock, is several years her junior, but you would never have guessed it based on his safe and predictable style.
Certain elements of his programme were utterly pointless and patronising, not least the use of ageing 'weather wardens' to give us an amateur forecast.
I didn't care too much about what his kids were up to either.
There may not be many teenagers up at 7am, but there are numerous people of non-retirement age who are wide awake ahead of a long working day.
Radio Oxford clearly wants to appeal to this broad audience.
This means taking a few risks, and upsetting certain (mainly elderly) listeners who oppose any changes to their nice and cosy station.
For that alone, BBC Oxford should be applauded.
