We have at Collinwood Road United Reformed Church at Headington, Oxford, a thriving luncheon club which was started in February 1988.
It was originally formed to serve the elderly of Risinghurst, but has been extended to take in members from Barton and Sandhills.
I estimate that over the past 16 years, we have served 33,000 meals. Can any group in Oxford beat this record?
Is it because of the air in Risinghurst?
We have among our members 10 nonagenarians, 24 octogenarians and six septuagenarians (the youngsters!).
Some members came to the first dinner and are still coming today. I think that speaks volumes for the high standards set by the volunteers who come every week to look after them.
This is a very happy group, and laughter is often the order of the day.
They would be the first to thank all those who volunteer to help them -- the cooks, the drivers, those who prepare the food and those who come to speak to them every week.
I enclose a recent photograph of many of the group. No doubt sales of the Oxford Mail will go up considerably on the day you publish it. DAVID MUNDAY, Wharton Road, Headington, Oxford
